Makan di restoran bisa bikin polusi udara meningkat, kok bisa?

Naik sepeda ke sekolah, ke kantor, belanja, ngemall bukan hal baru lagi buat orang Belanda. Sepeda memang sudah menjadi moda transportasi populer bagi warga sana. Tapi ini udah bukan hal baru lagi dari Belanda. Apa sich yang baru sebenernya?

Pernahkan kalian menyadari kalau dengan makan di restoran itu, kalian berkontribusi secara tidak langsung sama peningkatan gas rumah kaca (GRK) dan polusi udara? Kok bisa? Jawabannya bisa teman … Polusi udara dan peningkatan emisi GRK ini dihasilkan sama truk-truk pengangkut makanan yang tiap hari menyuplai bahan makanan di restoran-restoran Kota Amsterdam. Kendaraan –kendaraan yang bertugas mendistribusikan bahan makanan ini sudah dianggap mengganggu juga lho. Kenapa? Yang pertama karena kendaraan besar ini bikin macet jalanan kota yang punya lebih banyak sepeda daripada total penduduknya ini. Dari awal, amsterdam memang dirancang dengan jalan yang tidak terlalu lebar, yang hanya diperuntukkan bagi pejalan kaki dan pengendara sepeda. Jadi, sekarang ketika mobil dan kendaraan besar lain udah ada, jalanan kota ini jadi stuck karena kehadiran mereka. Yang kedua dan gag kalah penting adalah polusi udara Kota Amsterdam yang sudah berupaya dikurangi dengan bersepeda jadi kurang optimal. Sayang kan kalo masyarakatnya udah capek-capek genjot sepeda tapi mobil tetep wara-wiri.

Untuk itu muncullah inovasi terbaru dari orang kreatif Belanda untuk bikin FOODLOGICA. FOODLOGICA ini mengedepankan konsep distribusi barang terutama bahan makanan lokal ke Amsterdam dengan mengintegrasikan sepeda elektrik dan kapal lewat kanal-kanal Amsterdam yang banyak itu. Penggagasnya Francesca Miazzo berpendapat bahwa sistem distribusi bahan makanan memiliki kontribusi besar dalam pembentukan kota yang resilient. Sungguh sudah sangat maju pemikirannya ya. Miazzo merombak sepeda dengan box atau kotak dibelakangnya untuk mengangkut bahan-bahan makanan ke restoran-restoran di kota yang merupakan tujuan wisata populer ini.

Ide ini mungkin memang tidak sederhana dan butuh waktu yang tidak singkat juga, tapi tujuannya besar buat udara, lingkungan, bumi dan pemanasan global. Tapi konsep ini masih butuh dukungan besar buat dilanjutin karena belum banyak orang yang tau konsep ini dan masih dilakukan di Amsterdam aja. Tentunya bakal sangat luar biasa kalau kota-kota lain di dunia bisa ikut mengadaptasi konsep distribusi ramah lingkungan yang ditawarkan orang-orang Belanda ini. PUBLIC SPACE FOR EVERYONE

Kevin Lynch (1960) said that the physical spaces of the city created an image and characteristic of the city itself, this physical characteristic could divide into five category that consist of path, edge, nodes, district, and landmark.

A district could create a social space function, social space in a certain city usually seen as an open space like garden that could gives activity spaces for citizen. The activities could be many things that related to human interaction. But social spaces for urban people is not always in the form of garden, it could be another function such as commercial, religious activity, education, and many more. A city with many characteristics formed a lifestyle and its citizen personalities. So that, a city has to be creates well in contribution of better lifestyle changes (Wirth, 1938).

Public space is an area that gives interaction places. Street, garden, plaza, and open space could give shapes in community lifestyle (Carr, 1992). Providing this kind of spaces in the peoples social live will bring satisfaction and happiness.

Bike Track, Sustainable Transportation Concept

Mobility or movement is one of the biggest challenges that faces by many cities in the world. A city must able to provide efficient public services so that the society could comfortably enjoy the city by working, shopping, or travelling (Rubini, 2010). In line with the rapid movement development of the urban people, the business of providing the new transportation innovation to support the mobility grows fast. Transportation mode provider now becomes one of the most interesting and beneficial business. Efficiency and affectivity is the main concern of the modern people especially related with time and money. Indeed, transportation gives big contributions on the city development especially in economic, but in environmental aspect transportation more gives negatives impact. Environmental degradation and global warning are the main issues that caused by air pollution.

Sustainable transportation could be one of the most suitable solutions on the effort process to tackle environmental degradation in general and reducing the use of private car especially. Sustainable transportation suggested using public transport as the main choices for people to support their activities. Public transport development could be integrated with the use of non-motorize transportation such as bicycle. Bicycle as eco friendly transportation could use as a feeder from the origin location like house to the closest public transport shelters.

Amsterdam is one of the busiest cities in the world especially with its tourism activity. Millions tourists come to Amsterdam every year and as one of the best tourist destination in the world Amsterdam not only famous with its life and beauty but also with their much love towards bicycle. This city probably one of the friendliest city in the world in term of the non-motorize transportation use.

Young people, old people, rich people, poor people, stylist or odd loved to bikes. Each person in Amsterdam at least has one bike to accommodate their activity. The only use public transport like train and tram when it does not possible to take their bike. Every street in this city not only facilitated by bicycle track but also another facilities for bicycle such as parking area and bike traffic light. Its citizen culture towards bike users also become one of the best thing in Amsterdam, bicycle is always become the first priority in the street so the other transportation users like motorcycle and car have to yield. Its citizen also tries to transmit their love to bike by creating some bicycle rent shop as one of tourist attraction.
